X-Men First Class Review

Directed by Matthew Vaughn
Written by Jane Goldman, Zach Stentz, Ashley Edward Miller, and Matthew Vaughn
Starring James McAvoy, Michale Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jenifer Lawrence, and Kevin Bacon

Walking into X-Men First Class I had huge expectations. The X-men have always been some of my favorite super hero characters. After Kick Ass (my favorite film of last year) I was anticipating whatever Matthew Vaughn would do next. I actual went on an information lock down on the film becuase I did not want anything to be spoiled for me. So lets jump in to film.
X-Men: First Class unveils the epic beginning of the X-Men saga - and a secret history of the Cold War and our world at the brink of nuclear Armageddon. As the first class discovers, harnesses, and comes to terms with their formidable powers they posses, they train to help and save the world but, do all of the mutants have the same intentions as Charles (James McAvoy) and his friend Erik (Michale Fassbender) could possibly enter the most dangerous battle of all, against each other.
Overall, I was not let down one bit with the results of X-Men First Class. The film is truly amazing with fantastic writing that makes the characters not just mutants but have the same emotions and feelings as people. They are sad, happy, in love, anger, and a lot of other emotions. They point is that they are betrayed as realistic instead of a mute mutant. Some of the best parts of the film is when you see Charles or soon to be Professor X partying. In these scenes you see that he wasn't always the perfectly level headed guy.
Also the action scenes are fantastic. Everything in the film involving Magneto (Erik) are just absoulty jaw dropping with him grabbing and pulling things like missiles and submarines. Along with that the mutant transitions like with Mystique and Emma Frost turning into there mutant forms. Almost as good as the Magneto scenes are the action scenes with Azazel who is also Nightcrawlers father and posses the same power as him. His teloporting then stabbing with his swords are extremely exciting and funny the way some of the deaths come.
The film like I mentioned was directed by Matthew Vaughn who did another extremely great job. He executes the script perfectly along with the action scenes. He also did a fantastic job making the film into a period piece in the early 60's. Everything from the clothing, to the furniture, to the buildings, and anything else you could fin its all 60's.
The performances for the film are universally perfect, especially by the two leads in James McAvoy and Michale Fassbender. Both perfectly command the screen in each moment on the screen and perfectly show each others young form. In fact I think there performances are Oscar worthy and by far the best leads of the year so far. The supporting cast is just as great with great performances by Kevin Bacon as the villain and leader of the Hellfire Club, January Jones as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult, as Beast, and Rose Byrne as Dr MacTaggert. Maybe my favorite performance was by Jenifer Lawrence as Mystique. I thought Lawrence did a great job showing her confusion on which side to take good or bad. Also there is a perfect cameo by a mutant favorite.
So overall I have just been raving on the film and I mean every last bit of it. It is such an intelligent, beautiful, an epic film that must not be missed by anyone. It is by far the best super hero film of the year and I think better then the Dark Knight. Without a doubt it is a perfect score film.

4/4 Stars
